During the 30-year life of a landing gear, tracking of the structurally significant parts is an airworthiness requirement to ensure safe operation. Original build records are delivered with new landing gears to a production line or as a new spare requirement. Messier-Dowty stores its original build records to allow in-service follow-up requests from airlines and MROs. Note - it is an MRO requirement that airlines provide the traceability data to an MRO when a landing gear is removed for overhaul - a lack of clear data can cause delays in the MRO process whilst records are recovered or result in conservative life re-assessment if airline records are not available.
Since 1998, electronic database records were put in place on most major programs to record the data for all new build landing gears. Today, airline and MRO traceability queries on landing gears are supported by a dedicated resource within Messier-Dowty. Further details can be obtained from your TASSC technical teams.
The main steps of our traceability queries management process are :
- to acknowledge receipt of the traceability request
- to search relevant information
- to certify the results
- to officially respond to the customer.
Our target is to answer with accurate traceability data within 10 days.
